Press release: Acron Launches New Urea Unit

Acron Group, a leading mineral fertiliser producer in Russia and globally, has commissioned a new 600-tpd urea unit at its Veliky Novgorod site.

The Company implemented the Urea-600 project during a year and invested approximately RUB 2 billion. Design institute and Acron subsidiary Novgorod GIAP was the general designer of the new unit. The new production process is based on URECON®2006 technology. An advanced integrated wastewater treatment plant, which will also serve units 1-4, was commissioned as part of the project.

Chairman of Acron’s Board of Directors Alexander Popov commented: “The implementation of the Urea-600 project is an important step in the Group’s new strategy adopted in 2017. The investment programme through 2025 is based on increasing capacity and output by implementing projects with a short timeline and high rate of return. Ammonia-4, the highest-capacity facility in Europe, which Acron commissioned in 2016, provides additional feedstock output for manufacturing urea, and demand for this product has been steadily growing. We use some of the output in-house to produce UAN liquid fertiliser, urea-formaldehyde resins and high-quality technical-grade urea for AdBlue®”.

In parallel with the construction of Urea-600, Acron upgraded equipment at units 1-4 and unit 5, which was launched in 2012. With the commissioning of unit 6 and increased capacity at the existing facilities, urea output reached 3,800 tpd, and annual capacity jumped to 1.3 million tonnes.

Urea is a high-analysis nitrogen fertiliser and a feedstock for UAN and urea-formaldehyde resins. Urea has the highest nitrogen content of all the granulated nitrogen fertilisers, which makes it the most popular fertiliser in the world. Urea is widely applied to a range of crops and all soil types. In 2017, Acron produced over 950,000 tonnes of urea.
