Press release: Gazprom Neft Middle East B.V. produces its millionth tonne of oil in Kurdistan

Gazprom Neft subsidiary Gazprom Neft Middle East B.V. has produced its millionth tonne of oil at the Garmian field, located in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI). Total production at the field is now running at more than 23,000 barrels (3,100 tonnes) per day.

Two wells are in operation at the field, with preparations in hand for the drilling of a third, the Sarqala-3. The field is subject to uniquely high reservoir pressure and temperature. First oil was obtained at the Garmian block in 2011, with commercial crude shipments from the field commencing in 2015. The first stage of expanding the crude collection and processing facility to 25,000 barrels of day has now been completed, and expansion of infrastructure capacity to 35,000 barrels is ongoing.

Sergei Petrov, CEO, Gazprom Neft Middle East B.V. commented: «One million tonnes — that’s a genuinely significant milestone for Gazprom Neft Middle East B.V. The team had to work under considerable geological uncertainty, and find unique solutions. We now have a good understanding of the structure of the field and are ready for new challenges».
