Press release: Public organizations acquainted with environmental measures

The representatives of Salavat Public Chamber and journalists visited the industrial site of Gazprom neftekhim Salavat and learnt the ecological projects of the Company.

The guests visited the construction site of a treatment unit for sulfidic and caustic wastes, particularly its two sections — ammonium nitrogen and sulfides treatment unit and phenols treatment unit. The final operations of integrated equipment testing are ongoing there. The unit start-up will allow achieving deep neutralization and purification of process effluents.

A mobile ecological laboratory facility of the Company aroused a particular interest among the media-tour participants. The measuring facility performs an analytical control of atmospheric air on site, at sanitary-protection zone and in town of Salavat. It is equipped with an up-to-date analytical equipment for sampling and analyzing the atmospheric air based on 14 constituents. An integrated meteorological station fixes the ambient parameters. All the operations are performed automatically and on a real-time basis — media-tour members have made sure of it.

Reconstruction of treatment facilities, which is among federal projects at the Year of Ecology, was of considerable interest to mass media representatives. Vladimir Gerunov, Head of new off-site facilities construction department, responding to correspondents’ questions.

The following check point was treatment facilities, which are under large-scale reconstruction. It is unique in the petrochemical field with regard to the number of modern environmental technologies, supposed to get implemented. The reconstruction program comprises seven steps. Nowadays I and II step construction and installation works are in progress.

Here at treatment facilities the guests took some part in transplanting the water hyacinth into the sediment ponds — it is applied at the facilities for final treatment of effluents.

Ildar Bagautdinov, the Chair of Salavat Public Chamber:

— We have been discussing the ecological issue for a long time. The observed current situation inspires optimism regarding the environment management. It is obvious that all the efforts made by the Company will definitely improve the ecological situation within the town and around it for the benefit of its citizens. I would sure like all the outlined activities to be fulfilled. Now I have a clear idea about air and water conditions, most aspects have been defined more accurately. And in my turn I will provide the citizens with more reliable and detailed answers for their concerning questions about the ecological situation.
