Press release: One millionth ton of Halobutyl Rubber produced

One millionth ton of Halobutyl Rubber was produced at Butyl Rubber Plant of PJSC “Nizhnekamskneftekhim”.

The Company proceeded to construction of the Russia’s first ever halobutyl plant in 2001, industrial production was mastered in 2004: the first Chlorobutyl Rubber bale was produced on March 13, the bromine unit was commissioned on May 15, and the first bromobutyl rubber bale was produced on May 28.

The start of the production of Halobutyl Rubbers was preceded by extensive effort - specialists of the R&D center of the Company together with the staff of the scientific research institute Yarsintez developed a technology for their production that was tested on a pilot plant of the R&D center. The first experimental batches of the products synthesized at this facility were tested by consumers. Based on the comments and suggestions received from them, the design institute Giprokauchuk and the Perm branch of the Russian scientific center "Applied Chemistry" developed the project of the main production plant upon request of Nizhnekamskneftekhim.

After testing the industrial samples of the new rubber at the tire factories in Russia and internationally, the serial production of Halobutyl Rubber began.

The initial production capacity was 30 thousand tons per year. As a result of revamping activities undertaken over the past years, annual production reached 136 thousand tons of Halobutyl Rubber by 2016. About 97% of produced Halobutyl Rubbers are exported.
