Press release: Representatives of PJSC “Nizhnekamskneftekhim” took part in the conference “Polyethylene. Polypropylene-2017”

In the XIV international conference “Polyethylene. Polypropylene-2017” held in Moscow on March 21, 2017, Marat Fatykhov, the Head of Department for promotion of polymers – Head of Department for advertising and exhibitions, made the report on the corporate strategy of polyolefin production and on the development of the new product grades in PJSC “Nizhnekamskneftekhim”.

Within last 3 years, PJSC “Nizhnekamskneftekhim” significantly increased the proportion of linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) in polyethylene production. While in 2014 the amount of produced LLDPE was 16 thousand tons only, in 2016 it already reached 74 thousand tons. The Company is planning to continue the production increase of this polyethylene type up to 100 thousand tons per year. In this respect, in 2017 the Company is going to develop a new grade – РЕ5118N, which will be used in fabrication of blown film and film lamination, apart from the basic polyethylene grade, designated for stretch film production. Moreover, the Company is planning to continue the development of rotational molding market. For this purpose, in the grade range there are 3 grades of medium density polyethylene: РЕ6432R, РЕ6438R and РЕ6438Ѕ.

In cooperation with two Russian Companies PJSC “Nizhnekamskneftekhim” is involved in the development of the market of polyethylene used for steel pipe insulation. Several domestic plants already use grade РЕ6146КМ successfully. A pilot batch of new grade РЕ6347К for shield application on power cable was produced in December 2016 and several cable production plants perform the tests of this grade now.

At present time, the Company decreases the production of propylene homopolymer and focuses on the copolymers production. By the end of 2016, the proportion of propylene and ethylene copolymers reached 86% of the total amount of polypropylene. The main directions in the development of copolymer production – improvement of melt flow index and upgrading of impact properties and physical-mechanical characteristics.

Within last 2 years the Company arranged stable sales of two grades with high melt flow index – РР4445Т (random) and РР8440Т (block copolymer), as well as unique grade РР9240N with high ethylene content (15%) and higher melt flow index.

Nowadays the specialists of Plastics Plant and R&D Center of PJSC “Nizhnekamskneftekhim” develop a new direction for Russian polypropylene producers – bimodal block copolymer, which is required in car industry and rigid packaging production.

Additionally, was underlined the success of scientific activity in Nizhnekamsk performed by specialists of Plastics Plant in the field of application of alternative catalysts for propylene polymerization.
