Press release: Gazprom and Tatarstan ink Agreement on innovations

Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, and Rustam Minnikhanov, President of the Republic of Tatarstan, today signed at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2018 an Agreement of Cooperation.

The document envisages cooperation between the parties under an innovative project for the development and mathematical justification of high-precision computational techniques for 1D and 3D geomechanical modeling. The Innopolis University based in Tatarstan is currently engaged in R&D in that field for Gazprom.

In line with the Agreement, it is planned to engage in the work other domestic oil and gas companies that might take interest in the project.

The document was signed in pursuance of the Agreement on scientific & technical cooperation and partnership between Gazprom and the Republic of Tatarstan inked in the autumn of 2016.

Gas trunklines in Republic of Tatarstan

Background

1D and 3D geomechanical modeling is the assessment of physical characteristics and reactions of rock formations to external impacts during field development. This helps, inter alia, mitigate geological risks during exploration and at the early stages of development, as well as improve efficiency of constructing production wells.

The Innopolis University is a Russian higher education institution specializing in education and research in the field of IT and robotics.
