Press release: Gazprom and Wintershall address cooperation issues

A working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, and Mario Mehren, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Wintershall Holding, took place today at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2018.

 

The meeting participants discussed the current issues and prospects of cooperation in the gas sector.

 

Particular attention was paid to the progress of the Nord Stream 2 project. The parties stressed the importance of building the gas pipeline to provide long-term and reliable gas supplies to Europe. In the context of Nord Stream 2, consideration was given to the expansion of the German gas transmission system for gas supplies to Germany and other European countries.

 

Background

In 2017, Gazprom’s gas supplies to Germany hit a record high of 53.4 billion cubic meters, showing a 3.6 billion cubic meters (7.2 per cent) increase against the 2016 record of 49.8 billion cubic meters.

Wintershall Holding GmbH, a wholly-owned subsidiary of BASF SE, is Gazprom’s partner in gas transmission (Nord Stream gas pipeline) and development of the Yuzhno-Russkoye oil, gas and condensate field, as well as Blocks 1A, 4A and 5A in the Achimov formations of the Urengoyskoye oil, gas and condensate field.

Nord Stream 2 is the construction project for a gas pipeline with the annual capacity of 55 billion cubic meters from Russia to Germany across the Baltic Sea.
