Press release (Polyplastic): Mr. Peter Basunov commented on the Antitrust Service rejecting initiative of the Association of Plastic Processing Companies

The Federal Antitrust Service (FAS) did not find sufficient legal basis for implementing the new tool for raw materials procurement by small and medium processing enterprises, according to the report placed on the Association of Plastic Processing Companies website.

Mr. Peter Basunov, Director General of the Association commented on the decision. The Association had the initiative to support small players of the industry market about a year ago. It included consolidated procurements of raw materials from the suppliers at a lower price and its further resale to small and medium enterprises.

The issue was discussed in detail in late January at the meeting between the representatives of Federal Antitrust Service, Association of Plastic Processing Companies and suppliers of petrochemical raw materials. Following the results of the meeting, Mr. Basunov said that the initiative failed to gain support. First of all, antitrust laws have to be improved: “FAS has its own vision of developing the legal framework for the tool to become efficient. They are working in this direction in close cooperation with our Association. Current legislation requires the suppliers to have a volume discount system”.
