Press release: Gazprom Neft patents technology for non-contact pipeline diagnostics
Gazprom Neft has secured six patents for proprietary non-contact pipeline diagnostics technologies — which do not, as yet, have any competition in the global oil industry.
These new technologies have allowed Gazprom Neft specialists to develop a cutting-edge range of diagnostics, operating on the basis of the remote measurement of an object’s magnetic field, allowing critical defects to be identified and single-point preventative repairs scheduled. Optimum operating conditions were modelled during pilot operations, with prototypes developed and subjected to all necessary testing and certification.
Using these new technologies will deliver both economic and environmental benefits. Ongoing operational monitoring will make it possible to transition from the full replacement of pipeline components to selective repairs, as well as improving safety of pipelines through the earlier detection of defects.
The non-contact pipeline diagnostics technology was awarded a prize by Gazprom PJSC as part of its annual competition for projects in science and technology, the award ceremony for which took place in Moscow on 7 December 2017.
Alexander Shushakov, Head of Gazprom Neft’s Oil and Gas Production Department, commented: “Our proprietary non-contact pipeline diagnostics technology underlines our company’s position at the forefront of implementing state-of-the-art production technologies. This cutting-edge equipment makes it possible to monitor underground trunk pipelines, improving cost-effectiveness and reducing pipeline repair costs.”
NOTES FOR EDITORS
Open to all its subsidiaries, Gazprom’s awards in science and technology take place every year, with prizes awarded for major developments in the production, transportation, storage, refining and utilisation of hydrocarbons leading to the development, improvement or — most importantly — the effective implementation of new pilot technologies, instrumentation, equipment, and materials. More than 10 such awards are made every year.
